Andrew Mathews was born on January 11th, 1892. Andrew Mathews' father was Albertus Daniel Johannes van Blerk and his mother was Johanna Barendina Richards (van Blerk). His paternal grandparents were Albertus Daniel Johannes van Blerk and Margaretha Magdalena Nieuwoudt (van Blerk). He had three brothers named Albert Daniel John, Johannes Petrus Isak and Thomas Bernardus. He was the youngest of the four children.-
