Bennie's father was Daniel Joubert and his mother was Rachel Dorothea van Blerk (Joubert). His paternal grandparents were Peter Joubert and Alida Elizabeth Celliers (Joubert); his maternal grandparents were Barend Johannes Vorster van Blerk and Alida Goudina Erasmus. He had a sister named Iris. He had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Vivian Charles, Desmond Peter, Johanna, Vida and Ulyth Welhelmina.-
