Elizabeth Maria's father was Mattheus Hendrikus Human and her mother was Elizabeth Susanna Johanna van Blerk ( Meyer). Her paternal grandparents were Johannes Petrus Human and Susanna Elizabeth Wessels (Human); her maternal grandparents were Fredrick Johannes van Blerk or Johannes Fredrick van Blerk and Anna Cornelia Petronella Viljoen (van Blerk). She had three brothers and four sisters, named Willem Abraham, Mattheus Hendrikus, Jacobus Daniel, Engela Helena, Susanna Margaretha, Susanna Elizabeth and Maria Elisabeth. She had two half-brothers named Hendrik Cornelis and Johannes Frederik.-
