Thomas' baptism took place on December 24th, 1837 in Tipton, Staffordshire, England.1   Thomas' father was Thomas Groom and his mother is Mary Preece. He had three brothers and six sisters, named John, William, Richard, Eliza, Mary, Sarah, Rebecca, Rosanna and Ruth.
