Michell was born on September 6th, 1797.  Michell's father was John Ward and his mother was Rachel Vernon.  His paternal grandparents were Jacob Ward and Anna Hill. He had five brothers and six sisters, named William, Jacob, John, Ebenezer, Juda, Elizabeth, Mary, Rebecca, Anna, Sarah and Rachel.  He was the third youngest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 77 in June 1875.
