Edith's father was John William Holder and her mother was Senia May Ballard.  Her paternal grandfather was Joshua Holder and her paternal grandmother is Melvina D. Stroud; her maternal grandparents are James Ballard and Mary Goodman. She had six brothers and five sisters, named William, henry, Ernest, Marion, J., Jack, Bertha, Bulah, Sadie, Sarah and Beedie.
