Benjamin was born in 1855.  Benjamin's father was Elisha Holder and his mother was Mary Polly Neal.  His paternal grandparents were Jesse  Holder and Garrison. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Elisha, William, Jefferson, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Glennda, Mary and Annie.  He was the seventh oldest of the nine children.
