A note from Mindy Reied about her mother: " My Mom Patricia (who signed herself "Patea", as a kind of nickname - pronounced like Patty or Pati - because she liked tea so much!) was Grampa's only child, as I was his only grandchild. My grandmother Helen wrote an unpublished memoir called "Pride of Forty Mile" about her Alaskan childhood. Both the Dawson City Museum and the Alaska State Library have copies. Relatives of my grandmother still live in Iceland. (One is my distant cousin Valdis Einarsdottir, who came here for a visit with my adopted sister and myself back in 2001.)
My mother (1933-1993) married Frank Thorpe Reid (1930-1984) in 1953. They were fantastic people and I miss them terrible. Mom was very creative - a knitter, craftsperson, dollmaker and Christian lay counsellor, and was very proud of being a Mom and housewife. She loved animals and supported many animal charities. Dad started out and ended as a CPA (he died shortly after buying a practice back here, after leaving Princess Hotels International)...but spent over 10 years of his life as first Controller, than Treasurer for Western International Hotels, now known as Westin. He loved the hospitality industry. He also devotedly supported the work of the Union Gospel Mission to help the needy and homeless. Both my parents were born in Seattle, and both of them died in Bellevue, WA. They are buried at Sunset Memorial Park in Bellevue, as are Luke and Helen. (I plan on being buried in Hawai'i - which is where my sister and I hope we will be moving next year. My sister is of Hawaiian ancestry.) Dad died of a heart attack at 54, Mom at 60 after a long terrible struggle with cancer."
