William Sutherland

William was born in 1816. William's father was William Sutherland and his mother was Isabella MacPherson. His paternal grandparents are William Sutherland and Margaret Dallas; his maternal grandparents are John MacPherson and Elizabeth McDonald. He had four brothers and a sister, named Christian, Malcolm, John, Alexander and Elizabeth. He died at the age of 37 on February 10th, 1853.

  Census 31/3/1851 says 34 years old living at 117 Raining Stairs Inverness.IGI Scottish parochial records.Not found in 1861 census & children migrated in 1860.Shoemaker ex soldier.
  Apparently there was some sort of disaster in the late 1850's, so that by the
  census of 1861 the family had disappeared except for Isabella, William Alexr &
  Alexander who were taken to Tasmania in 1860 by a Bethune uncle. Bethune can
  be Beaton & in the 1851 census the following were visitors at William's house:
  Margaret Bethune age 21, Alexander Bethune age 20, & George Sutherland age
  29, an Inverness ship's master. William Alexander's memoirs say his father had
