William was born in September 1751.  William's father was William Staple and his mother was Constance Morcombe.  His paternal grandparents were Walter Staple and Mary Skewes. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Walter, John, John, Eliza, Katherine and Mary.  He was the oldest of the seven children.
