  • She was very pretty. His father had a very good friend (Yankos Sakelaridis) from a very rich and aristochratic-christian family. Yankos was an extremely good man. He loved Rahil very much and Rahil loved him too. There was no civilian marriage at this time so they lived together without marrying. They had no children but they adopted two girls from other families. They had a very good life, Yankos was city major (or something similar) and earned a good pension. When he was about to die, during the war, he begged Rahil to marry him, otherwise the pension will not be transferred to her and she can remain with nothing. Rahil refused because it meant converting into christianism, but at the end he convinced her.
    Although being so distinguished, Rahil never knew to read and write.
    Years later, when she was old and the two girls grown by her left to Russia and Albania, Vika Atun (later married Yakovos Frizis) frequented her home in order to be with her. Rahil (sister of Vika's grandmother, Sara) loved Vika very much and when she married gave her many gifts.
