George was born in 1822.  George's father was Donald Mowat and his mother was Catherine Calder.  His paternal grandparents were George Mowat and Catherine Dunnet.  He had three brothers and three sisters, named Alexander, Daniel, Donald, Janet, Elizabeth and Catharine.  He was the sixth oldest of the seven children.  He died due to natural causes or old age at the age of 74 in 1896.
