Anne was born in 1837.  Anne's father was Marcus MacKenzie and her mother was Margaret Forbes.  Her paternal grandparents were George MacKenzie and Christina Forbes; her maternal grandparents are John Forbes and Janet Henderson.  She had three brothers and three sisters, named George, Donald, Sinclair, Emily, Janet and Catherine.  She was the youngest of the seven children.
