Margret was born in 1754.  Margret's father was Peter Mowat and her mother was Helen Coghill.  Her maternal grandparents were Donald Coghill and Jean Dunnet.  She had three brothers and a sister, named George, Donald, John and Elspet.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
