Alois was born on June 19th, 1893.1   Alois' father was Jan Melo and his mother was Josefka Prokopová.  His paternal grandparents were Josef Melo and Kateřina Muzikárova; his maternal grandparents were František Prokop and Apolena Vozdecká. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Jan, Václav, Marie and Růžena.  He was the youngest of the five children.  He died as a war casualty at the age of 25 in 1918.1
