Josefa's father was Josef Kirchner and her mother was Barbara Kuncová. Her paternal grandparents were Jakub Kirchner and Dorota Plocková; her maternal grandparents were Václav Kunc and Kateřina. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Václav, Josef, Anna and Zuzana. She was the youngest of the five children.
