Lester A. Webb, 88, of Effingham, IL, passed away at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Evergreen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at Watson Baptist Church, Watson, with the Rev. Kent Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Watson Cemetery, Watson, with military graveside rites. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the church. Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Watson Baptist Church, Watson.

Lester was born on February 24, 1924 in Effingham County, IL, the son of Jerome and Bertha (Hossman) Webb. He married Eva Marie Moore. He later married Geraldine Ledbetter, and she preceded him in death.

Lester was veteran of the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Campaign. He was a competition boxer for his ship, the USS Texas, while he was in the United States Navy. He was a member of Watson Baptist Church, Watson. He retired as a machinist from Norge-Fedders, Effingham. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and storyteller.

Lester is survived by his children, Glen (Kim) Webb of Stewardson, Dennis Webb of Hickory, KY, Edmond (Peggy) Webb of Heartville, and Mark (Leslie) Webb of Dieterich; brother, Dale (Hilda) Webb of Effingham; sister, Ardel Slone of Watson;
16 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 step-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Ida Marie Swanson and Lisa Sue Webb; grandson, Aaron Swanson; 4 brothers; and 4 sisters.
