Willem Ariens was born in 1701 in Zuilichem and his baptism took place there on October 16th, 1701. Willem Ariens' father was Arie Willemsz  van Wijnen and his mother was  Theuntje (Teuniske) Herberts .  His paternal grandparents were Willem Ariensz van Wijnen and Geertruij Willems Rijkers; his maternal grandparents were Herbert Roelofsen and Luitie Meerterse. He had two brothers and seven sisters, named Herbert, Cornelis Ariens, Cornelia, Peterken, Peterken, Cornelia, Luitje, Jenneke and Gijsbertje Ariense.  He was the seventh oldest of the ten children.
