Meerke was born in 1739 in Gameren and her baptism took place there on September 27th, 1739.1   Her godmother was Jannetje Petersdr van de Werken. Meerke's father was Johannes van de Werken and her mother was Dina Bruijgom.  Her paternal grandparents were Peter Peterszn van de Werken and Mereke Abrahams van der Linden; her maternal grandparents were Cornelis Bruijgom and Willemke Vos. She had three brothers named Cornelis, Peter and Willem.  She was the second oldest of the four children. She had a half-sister named Sara.  She died at the age of 79 on September 5th, 1818.2
