Gerrit was born on November 12th, 1811 in Nieuwaal.1  Gerrit's father was Aart van de Werken and his mother was Lijntje van Rumpt.  His paternal grandfather was Hendrik Aertszn van de Werken and his paternal grandmother is Cornelia van den Oever; his maternal grandparents were Peter van Rumpt and Geertje van Bruchem. He had two brothers and a sister, named Hendrik Aartszn, Peter Gerritszn and Cornelia.  He was the youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 72 on April 24th, 1884 in Nieuwaal.2
