Maijke was born on August 31st, 1732 in Leerdam.1  Maijke's father was Jan Corneliszn van der Vliet and her mother was Johanna Teunisdr van Amerongen.  Her paternal grandparents were Cornelis Janszn van der Vliet and Lijsbeth Ariessen van Os. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Cornelis Janszn, Teunis, Arien, Arie, Gerrit, Jan, Lijsbet, Cornelia and Eelke.  She was the sixth oldest of the ten children.
