Jan was born on May 30th, 1751 in Brakel and his baptism took place there on June 6th, 1751.1 2   His godmother was Maaike Bouman. Jan's father was Cornelis Janszn van der Vliet and his mother was Maria Bouman.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Corneliszn van der Vliet and Johanna Teunisdr van Amerongen; his maternal grandparents were Jan Bouman and Maria Jansdr van Tiel. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Johannes, Arien, Joost, Cornelis, Maria, Maria and Maria.  He was the oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 80 on May 19th, 1832 in Andel.2
