Dorethe's father was Gerrit Jan Jacobszn Visser and her mother was Cornelia Aartsdr Ottervanger. Her maternal grandfather is Aart Rochuszn Ottervanger and her maternal grandmother was Dorothea Cornelisdr Swart. She had two brothers and a sister, named Johannes, Johannes and Ida. She was the oldest of the four children.
