Matthijs was born on December 24th, 1801 in Nederhemert and his baptism took place there on December 26th, 1801.1  Matthijs' father was Gijsbert Tielen and his mother was Catharina van de Werken.  His paternal grandparents were Mattijs Tielen and Peterke van de Werken; his maternal grandparents were Joost van de Werken and Dilia van den Berg.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 74 on January 19th, 1876 in Delwijnen.1
