Basil I was born in 0831 in Adranopel (Tur).1  Basil I's father was Canstantijn van Macedonië and his mother was Pancalo Bagratina van Armenië.  His paternal grandparents were Hmayeak Maiactes Mamikonian and N.N. van Byzantium; his maternal grandparents were Ashot IV van Armenië and N.N. N.N..  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 55 on August 29th, 0886 in Constantinopel (Tur).1
