Aart Janszn's father was Jan Pancraeszn van der Laan and his mother was Annigje Jansdr Ouwejan. His paternal grandparents were Pancreas van der Laan and N.N. N.N.. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Pieter Janszn, Evert Janszn, Marigje Jan Pancken, Niesje Jansdr and Niesje Jansdr. He was the third oldest of the six children.
