Gerritje was born about 1868 in Zevenhuizen (ZH).1  Gerritje's father is Aalbert Houweling and her mother is Trijntje Vis.  Her paternal grandparents are Arie Houweling and Hilletje Bontenbal; her maternal grandparents are Adrianus Vis and Gerritje Slappendaal. She had a brother and five sisters, named Adrianus, Arensje, Aaltje Cornelia, Aaltje Cornelia, Hendrika Johanna and Trijntje.  She is the second oldest of the seven children.
