Ariaentje was born in 1674 in Meeuwen and her baptism took place there on December 23rd, 1674.1  Ariaentje's father was Giel Janszn Hommel and her mother was Jenneken Jacobsdr Spierings.  Her maternal grandparents were Jacob Joostzn Spieringh and Aeltken Michielsdr van Arckel. She had three brothers and a sister, named Jacob Michielszn, Jan, Joost and Aeltje.  She is the oldest of the five children.
