Areke was born about 1748 in Poederoijen (Loevestein).1  Areke's father was Reijmert Dirkszn Heijmans and her mother was Areke van Eck. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Gerrit, Gerrit, Jacomijntje, Sijken, Dirkje and Geertruij.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.  She died on January 21st, 1811 in Haaften.
