Jan was born in October 1709 in Dussen and his baptism took place there on October 20th, 1709.1  Jan's father was David Jacobszn van Giessen and his mother was Cornelia Petersdr van Gelder.  His paternal grandparents were Jacob Arienszn van Giessen and Maijken Anthonisdr Stael; his maternal grandfather was Pieter Bastiaenszn van Gelder and his maternal grandmother is Lijsbeth Jansdr van Nederveen. He had a brother and three sisters, named Peeter, Maijke, Anneken and Lijsbeth.  He was the youngest of the five children.  He died at the age of 67 in April 1777 in Dussen.  The funeral took place on April 9th, 1777 in Dussen.1 1
