Lodewijk I was born on April 16th, 0778 in Chasseneuil (F).1  Lodewijk I's father was Karel der Franken and his mother was Hildegard van der Vintzgouw.  His paternal grandparents were Pippijn III der Franken and Bertrade van Laon; his maternal grandparents were Gerold I van der Vintzgouw and Emma von Alemanië. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Karel, Pippijn, Lotharius, Adelais, Hrothrudis, Bertrade, Gisela and Hildegardis. He had three half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Drogo, Hugo, Theodoricus, Alpais, Hiltrude, Theodrada, Hiltrudis, Adeltrude and Rothildis.  He died at the age of 62 on June 20th, 0840 in Ingelheim (D).  The funeral took place in Saint Arnould - Metz (F).1 1
