Hugo VI was born in 0970 in Eguisheim Elzas (F).1  Hugo VI's father was Hugo III van Egisheim and his mother was N.N. van Metz.  His paternal grandparents were Eberhard I van de Elzas and Luitgard van Lotharingen. He had a sister named Adelheid.  He was the older of the two children.  He died at the age of 79 in 1049.1
