Jan was born in 1774 and his baptism took place on March 30th, 1774 in Amsterdam.1   His godfather was Aart Nieuwkoop en Willem Nieuwkoop. Jan's father was Lambertus Sijmenszn Doedijns and his mother was Elizabeth Maria Nieuwkoop.  His paternal grandparents were Sijmen Lambertszn Doedijns and Johanna Jansdr van Veen; his maternal grandparents were Aart Janszn Nieuwkoop and Maria Vos. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Siemon, Arnoldus, Johanna and Maria.  He was the youngest of the five children.  He died at the age of 74 on August 2nd, 1848 in De Bilt.2
