Kortstiaan was born in 1754 and his baptism took place on February 3rd, 1754 in Wijk en Aalburg.1  Kortstiaan's father was Arie Bax and his mother is Keuntje Blankers.  His paternal grandparents are Lauwerens Bax and Anneke Haspels. He had three brothers and a sister, named Lauwerens, Kortstiaan, Willem and Anna.  He was the third oldest of the five children. He had a half-sister named Jenneken.  He died before 1755.
