Gilbert was born in 1878 in Saxlingham, Norfolk.1 Gilbert's father was Clement Everrett Lincoln and his mother was Elizabeth Breeze. His paternal grandparents were William Lincoln and Hephzibah Elizabeth Everrett. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Clement, Harry, Ersa, May and Mary. He was the third oldest of the six children.-
