James was born in 1767 in Cakemore, Worcestershire and his christening took place on April 5th, 1767 at St Johns, Halesowen, Worcestershire.1   James' father was Joseph Harper and his mother was Sarah Forest. He had two brothers and two sisters, named John, Joseph, Elizabeth and Sarah.  He was the third oldest of the five children.
