Saroj's father was Dulabhdas Vanmali and her mother is Jasodabai Talakchand.  Her paternal grandparents are Vanmali Mulgi and <Unknown>; her maternal grandparents are Talakchand Otamchand and Motibai Bhikha. She has three brothers and two sisters, named Gentilal [Jentilal], Rajnikant, Lalit, Narabda and Jayalaxmi. She had a half-brother named Puspassen.
