John was born on July 20th, 1851 in Lincoln.1   John's father was James Dove Maplestone and his mother was Mary Richards.  His maternal grandparents were Joseph Richards and Mary Baxter. He had six brothers and four sisters.  He died at the age of 74 in 1925 in Lincoln.2
