Samuel was born on May 22nd, 1791 in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England.  Samuel's father was James Knowles and his mother is Elizabeth Biggs. He had two brothers and two sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named William, Jacob, Maria, Phebe and Frances.  He died at the age of 65 on July 16th, 1856.
