Sarah Ann was born on June 26th, 1827 in Port Elizabeth.  Sarah Ann's father was William Benjamin Hardwick and her mother was Mary Ann Farrar.  Her maternal grandparents were John Farrar and Hannah Eccles. She had four brothers and two sisters, named John William, Edward, Robert George, Charles Arthur, Hannah Mary and Emily Jane.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 43 in 1870.
