Thomas was born on July 31st, 1808 in Oldham.  Thomas' father was John Smith Barlow and his mother was Sarah Wrigley.  His paternal grandfather is John Barlow and his paternal grandmother was Betty Smith; his maternal grandparents were James Wrigley and Elizabeth Kenworthy. He had three brothers and two sisters, named John, John James, William Henry, Elizabeth and Sarah Jane.  He was the oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 54 on November 9th, 1862 in Leeds.
