Thomas was born in 1833 in Eling, Hampshire.1   Thomas' father was Luke Savage and his mother was Sarah Lonnon.  His maternal grandparents were William Lonnon and Ann. He had four brothers and four sisters, named James, Ambrose, Alfred, George, Emily, Eliza, Elizabeth and Ellen.  He was the fourth youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 67 in March 1900 in Southampton, Hampshire.2
