William was born in 1624 in Thaxted, Essex and his christening took place on December 31st, 1624 in Thaxted Parish Church, Essex.1 2  William's father was William Hockley and his mother was Mary Badcock. He had a brother and a sister, named John and Maria.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 56 in 1680 in Thaxted, Essex.  He was buried on April 21st, 1680 in Thaxted Parish Church, Essex.3 3
