John was born on December 27th, 1768 in West Harnham, Wiltshire.1   John's father was John Dear and his mother was Hannah Ryan.  His paternal grandparents were <Unknown> and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Michael Ryan and Hannah Hayler. He had a brother and a sister, named William and Ann.  He was the second oldest of the three children.
