Joseph was born in 1868 in Atherstone, Warwickshire and his baptism took place on August 2nd, 1868 in Parish Church, Atherstone, Warwickshire.1  Joseph's father was William Henry SHILTON and his mother was Catherine CROWLEY.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas SHILTON and Ann HARRIS; his maternal grandparents were Samuel CROWLEY and Mary <UNKNOWN>. He had two brothers and a sister, named Henry, Samuel and Margaret. He had an adopted brother named Douglas.  He died at the age of 1 in March 1869 in Atherstone, Warwickshire.
