William was born in 1772 in Mancetter, Warwickshire and his baptism took place there on August 16th, 1772.¹   William's father was Thomas PLANT and his mother was Sarah OUGHTON.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas PLANT and Martha <UNKNOWN>. He had three sisters named Martha, Sarah and Sarah.  He was the second oldest of the four children.
