Ann was born in 1881 in Stockingford, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.  Ann's father was William CLARKE and her mother was Mary Ann ROBINSON.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas CLARKE and Sarah <UNKNOWN>; her maternal grandfather was William ROBINSON. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, William, George, Sarah and Ellen.  She was the second youngest of the six children. She had a half-sister named Elizabeth.
