Joseph was born on May 8th, 1669 in Haverhill, Essex, Massachusetts.1   Joseph's father was Thomas Whittier and his mother was Ruth Whittier.  His paternal grandfather is Richard Whittier and his paternal grandmother was Mary Whittier. He had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Nathaniel, Richard, Thomas, Mary, Ruth, Susannah, Hannah and Elizabeth.  He died in Haverhill, Essex, Massachusetts.1
