Benjamin was born in Salem Village.  Benjamin's father was Nathaniel Putnam and his mother was Elizabeth Putnam.  His maternal grandfather was Richard Hutchinson and his maternal grandmother is Alice Hutchinson. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Samuel, Nathaniel, John, Joseph, Elizabeth and Mary.  He died in Salem Village.
