Sarah was born in Roxbury, Suffolk, Massachusetts.  Sarah's father was Samuel Bass and her mother was Anne Bass.  Her paternal grandparents are Benjamin Bass and Mary; her maternal grandparents are William Saville and Hannah. She had five brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, Joseph, Samuel, Benjamin, Mary, Ruth and Hannah.
